Born in Costa Rica, Javier's preferred comfort drink was coffee. He enjoyed it with family and friends, in the morning or after lunch. He wasn't too picky or snobby about the type of coffee. Tea had a secondary role for him; however, it was perfect to relax and slow down from work and life. Over time, he learned about different types of tea and how they are consumed globally. In late 2021, he enrolled in an introductory tea sommelier course, growing more interested in tea with each lesson and video.
Javier became increasingly fond of tea due to its history, culture, rituals, and diverse range of flavors and aromas. This led him to combine two of his passions: tea and comics, to create the website "Mochi's Tea Party." His dog, Mochi, was also a key element in creating a story for the whole idea. He aimed to create a welcoming space for people to learn and appreciate tea while sharing content through his art and his beloved dog, Mochi.
Our goal is to make people curious about tea through the story of Mochi and her friends at her tea parties. They will teach people about tea's history, culture, and varieties.
We aim to foster a welcoming community where tea enthusiasts can connect, learn, and make friends.
Additionally, we aim to offer a high-quality, natural specialty tea and tisane (herbal tea) selection, sourced from suppliers who use sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices.
Furthermore, we support local artisans in Calgary by connecting their products with our customers.
